Their "Strength Training Over 50" ebook was a total life-changer for me -- I've bought copies of it for lots of my friends, and even my family. Everybody reads it and just RAVES. Well, listen to this: "Yoga For Weight Loss" is EVEN BETTER!

Dr. Andrew is a fitness coach and Sarah's a trainer and nutritionist, and their books together are just incredibly readable, and easy to relate to, for a non-exercise-fanatic like me. "Yoga For Weight Loss" is all about losing weight naturally -- "strengthening the body, and relaxing the mind," they call it. Okay, that sounds easy, but we all know it's NOT. Which is why the Andrews recommend using the healing power of yoga, which can actually help you burn off fat faster than regular exercise. They'll explain to you what yoga really is (and what it isn't), and why it helps you reduce weight. I loved the chapter on a "Yoga Diet" that works together with practicing yoga. After reading that, I gave a copy of the book to my Mom -- she instantly identified with the parts about working yoga into her busy schedule (my Mom didn't believe she could, either!).

There's even a chapter on "Yoga Therapy For Obesity" (I won't mention which family member I pointed this chapter out to). Also I loved the photos, and descriptions, of Yoga Poses -- they're broken down by poses for strength, poses for weight loss, poses reducing stress, and poses for beginners (like me!). The whole idea of weight loss and burning calories being a natural (and relaxing) thing totally changed my life. Give this book a shot -- believe me, it might change yours too.

Yoga for Weight Loss by Dr. Andrew and Sarah Williams is packed with useful information. Perhaps most important is a description of the various benefits of practicing this ancient form. The authors describe the main ways yoga improves both physical and mental health.
The first part of the book is largely a discussion of yoga and its different forms, from the type meant primarily for relaxation and well-being to “power yoga,” which is much more intensive.
As in their previous book Strength Training Over 50, the author’s recommend seeking the advice of a physician before embarking on any routine. This is particularly true for the more strenuous forms of yoga. The book offers other cautions, as well, such as starting out with the less strenuous forms, not trying some of the exercises if you are overweight, and so on.
The second half of the book describes the various types of yoga with poses (exercises) to go with each. Not only do the authors offer helpful illustrations and descriptions for the different poses, but they provide websites of videos illustrating each. This is one of the strengths of the book.
The overall theme, of course, is how to lose weight through practicing yoga, which is covered in detail. The Williams’s emphasize the benefits of choosing a particular yoga routine and sticking to it. They also emphasize the fact that along with the poses, you need to follow a healthful diet. To this end they provide a few recipes.
Overall I found this to be an easy-to-read guide that certainly will lead you to your goal of losing weight, becoming healthier overall, as well as improving your outlook on life.
This book is a gem! After I bought my Dad the book from Dr. Andrew and Sarah Williams and loved the way they wrote that book, I was glad to see that they have a book about yoga. Yoga for weight loss - to make things better. I don't have many pounds over what would be considered my normal weight, but I don't like the way my autumn and winter look like- a bit chubby (oh, holidays) and moody. Slowly I'm coming closer to my `'red zone'' and I could really use a few advises to keep myself in shape and not cross that boundary- this is where this book comes in.

I love yoga and I'm practicing it usually, but last few months were hectic and I don't find the will, time, and focus for all of it. This book however makes it look easy and it calmly counts the benefits of yoga that I couldn't wait to throw myself in cobra position.

Yoga for Weight Loss is a clear and detailed book about specific yoga poses that help losing weight. It is written step by step and any beginner could use it - there are clear descriptions of every pose, photos and links to videos (and I think those are very well chosen). Although I have been practising yoga (but I'm far from being an expert), I wasn't sure which poses were good specifically for weight loss. This book has answered my questions and it also gave recipes for lentil and bean soup the way it would be recommended yoga way. (Guess what I'll have for lunch tomorrow.)

What I also appreciate is that the authors put the list of foods, which are good to eat when you want to lose weight by practising yoga. I am always insecure about these things because all web-sites say different things. I loved the part about Doshas- it is my new area of research. There is a quiz you can take to find out which type are you and what food to eat.

There is also a helpful section for beginners that any pro could use and I liked the part of the book that focused solely on importance of (right) breathing for yoga, weight loss and after all, life in general. I like the fact that authors are careful and have explained who should do which positions and who shouldn't- these tips are very helpful and something that every book of this kind has to contain.

Yoga for weight loss is really a great book that motivated me to start being a bit more careful and kind to myself and gave me a great way to do it.
